No Paint Armies: Ambush scenario

On their way back to their capital city of Saint Louis, the battered Republic of Fabi army encounters the "downed trees, blocking road" trap. Laying in wait, is the Hikaru Territorial army led by General Nakamura.                [To enlarge any photo, please just click on that photo]

 The Hikaru dragoons inflicts casualties on Fabi's regulars. Chaos, but Fabi's light infantry escapes      to the woods.

 Chaos continues as the Fabi dragoons take casualties. General Caruana (White) retreats with                                                                                       regulars.

 General Nakamura's (Gold) Heavy cavalry takes casualties as The Fabi (White) lights &                                                                     regulars redeploy in the woods

 General Caruana's (White) lights & regulars continue to inflict casualties on the Hikaru (Gold)                                                                             heavy cavalry.

 The Fabi dragoons defeat the Hikaru dragoons in close combat causing them to retreat, while the Hikaru heavy cavalry unit is destroyed, but General Nakamura survives.

                         The Republic of Fabi's Army (White) has a light cavalry unit destroyed.

                                     A Hikaru Territorial (Gold) light cavalry unit is destroyed.

The Fabi army, prevails and clears the fallen trees, and limps back to their capital in Saint Louis. They are battle hardened troops for future Imagi-Nations action.

Still experimenting with the "homebrew rules" and tweaking as I go. Tried a different card activation approach. Also reviewing how to improve the scenario. The No Paint Armies used were 2003 Risk replacement parts (tricornes).

No Paint Armies: Fighting Retreat scenario

Following the instructions of President Abner Lincoln, General Caruana (White, Republic of Fabi) follows up on his earlier victory by pursuing the main army of the Principality of Magnus (Black) in an effort to destroy it before it slips away to safety in the Northern Mountains.

Testing a new set of "home brew" rules that includes allowing for skill level of Generals. Both leaders in this battle are rated average (5). Black (Principality of Magnus) will get first move. Objective for Black is to survive 15 turns with at least 2 stands (a Fighting Retreat scenario).

 Only 2 stands can move for Black (Magnus). White brings its forces to battle with 4 stands

Band luck continues for Black as only 1 unit receives orders. White activates 3 units.

              Black infantry misses, but its light infantry forces the Fabi dragoons to retreat.

                      Black infantry takes casualties from the Fabi Republic's main infantry.

Black Light Infantry hits White's dragoons in the river causing them to retreat

                   White finally gets to move first and begins to ford river at several locations

                                     The Principality of Magnus (black) taking casualties.

           Black taking fires manages to retreat to low hills while losing a light infantry unit.

                                       Black continues to retreat further into the hills

White's main infantry forced off the hills, but white dragoons continue to fire at black

                                                  The seesaw battle on the slopes continues.

  Black continues to take casualties, but holds its position with heavy fire down the slopes

Turn 15 arrives with a stalemate in the Northern Mountains. If this was chess, it would be a DRAW.

General Carlsen escapes into the Northern Mountains, but is not likely to challenge the Republic of Fabi militarily, for a long time.

Order of Battle:
White (Fabi Republic): General Carauana, 1 regular infantry, 2 light infantry, 1 light cavalry, 1 medium cavalry (dragoons) survivors of first battle.

Black (Principality of Magnus): General Carlsen, 2 regular infantry, 1 light infantry survivors of first battle.


Another rest day for the World Chess Championship, so a good excuse to have  some Imagi-Nations fun.
