WARG WW I

                                   November > Thanksgiving > Turkey

The Triple Entente, or Allied Powers, declared war on the Ottoman Empire on November 4, 1914. What have you done, Enver Pasha ?

Time for testing the WARG rules with World War 1 paper armies (courtesy of Junior General.org), but, not on the Eastern front. Instead, it's the Western front with the "Harlem Hellfighters" (369th Infantry regiment) versus the Germans. Objective: repair a damaged "Water Tank" during a lull in Artillery fire.

The "Harlem Hellfighters"

German machinegun and mortar crews

The Germans take some advanced shell holes for cover

The battle is joined

The Germans suffer losses on their right flank, while US engineers trying to start the tank are eliminated

The Hellfighters attempt a Sergeant Alvin York maneuver to outflank the Germans

But, the Germans push them back

The Hellfighters are taking heavy casualties

The battle centers on the disabled tank, as repairs begin

The spark plug installed after 3 turns and the engine fires.
Mission accomplished

While we were experimenting with the WARG rules, there is another simple & inexpensive set of WWI rules, available as a PDF, named  "Trench Hammer" .

With further credits to director Howard Hawks's movie "Sergeant York", starring Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan.

Happy Halloween

The good people of the post civil war town of Cody faced the threat of a take over from a Vampire led gang of zombies and ghouls.  However, led by Marshal Marshall, the city folk bravely defended their town and dispatched their ghastly foes.

The irrational defense of Minas One

The red dragon bides its time
The red dragon flies to the center.
The Dwarven catapults inflict some damage to the Skeletons on the flank.
The dragon's breath misses but sets a portion of the battlefield ablaze
The dwarves have initial success against the Orc Commander
The dwarves form for battle while the dragon waits
The dragon descends
The dragon begins clawing & biting
As the dwarves retreat from the battlefield, defeated.

I had this idea. I thought it might be a good one. Let's add a dragon to our fantasy battle. Well, the battle was fun. Everything was fine until the red dragon decided to participate.

So its time to rethink the original WARG fantasy rules  8-)

Some widgets to re-enforce wing structure

Will probably use some red crepe paper on wings to finish.

Granny Grate Orcs versus Dwarves WARG 1.4

Lost Mine

The two sides advance with the Dwarven leader reaching the mine first.

The Dwarves attempt to secure the mine, but their right flank seems out of touch.
                                            Both sides trade casualties
The Dwarves seem to have secured the mine at the expense of their right flank.
The Dwarves continue to hold the mine, but have taken heavy casualties in doing so.
The Dwarven casualties mount further as they try to hold on.

A Victory for the Orcs & Goblins at the Lost Mine.

Portable WARG 1.3

Alexander's Macedonians versus Darius III's Persians

Alexander has trouble mobilizing his troops and the Persians pounce

Alexander's Heavy Cavalry "bloodies" the Persian Scythed chariots

Alexander's Heavy Cavalry eliminates the Persian Scythed Chariots, while his regular Cavalry assaults the Persian light infantry on the right flank

The Macedonian cavalry eliminates the Persian light infantry on the right
Not the Persian's day, as Alexander's Pikes inflict casualties to the Persian Spears in the middle and the Macedonian Pikes and Cavalry sandwich and eliminate Persian Spears on the right.

                                      The Persians begin their retreat.

A victory for Alexander

Portable, yes. The board is 11 1/4 inches by 11 1/4 inches and the armies fit into 2 4 1/2 inch by 6 1/2 inch by 1 inch photo trays.

Bonus closeup photos of some of the armies. Please notice the shields 8-)
