First, Apologies for the poor photography. Our first play through of the Triumph! rules from the Washington Grand Company
Middle Anglo-Saxons (top) & Viking Raiders (bottom) meet outside Reading, 871 A.D.
The Vikings (above) spent the evening before battle, in drunken revelry with this blog's photographer.
The forces close to battle. The Viking leader, Einar the Bold orders his skirmishers to seize the woods on their right flank.
The usual dance of the skirmishers
The main engagement. Anglo Saxons on top side of photo, Vikings bottom.
Einar and the Vikings (bottom) right flank have some initial success, while Ethelred has success on the Anglo Saxon right flank
The Viking left flank solidifies, as the Anglo Saxons rolls a 1 for their Command Points. And, the Viking skirmishers succeed at clearing the woods on the Viking right flank.
The Viking raiders breakthrough on the Saxon (top) right wing.
The Saxons fight back on their right wing as Viking skirmishers extend their right flank.
Einar the Bold rallies his raiders as Ethelred attempts to counter in the center of the battle line.On the Viking right, a stand of raiders and a stand of skirmishers turn the Saxon's left flank.
With their left flank turned and casualties mounting the Middle Anglo Saxons retreat
Plunder time for the Vikings with the Middle Anglo-Saxons losing 18 points.
We learned that Triumph! is a very enjoyable, fun and easily learned set of rules. Yes, it is comparable to DBA 3.0, but I will leave it up to every gaming group to decide which is better for them. We decided that for us, Triumph! is a slightly easier set of rules to learn and use. Next up, will be my No Paint Armies (NPA ?) using Triumph! rules.
