Solo D&D ?

 What ? Solo D&D (tm) are words I never thought I would utter. But, then I never imagined using the word COVID, either.  So here's a look at my solo effort at a fantasy role playing game. For now, let's call it, "1 4 adventure".  

Disclaimer: Nothing compares to a great fantasy role playing game being played around a full table of players !!

WARG 1.1 Playtest

Time to playtest our WARG (Wednesday Afternoon Retired Gamers) 1.1 rules with Ancient armies from Eldoria (Frank, top of photo) and Sciatica (myself, bottom of photo).

              Sciatica's flanks advance, though some hesitation from their general.

The Bows and Heavy foot of Sciatica force the Eldorian general and heavy foot into a series of retreats. As night fell, the Elite spear joined in the Eldorian retreat.

OOB: 

          Eldorian: 5 heavy foot (general), 1 Elite spear  (23)

          Sciatica: 4 heavy foot (general), 2 Bows, 1 light cavalry  (20)

Gettysburg, day 3, southern end of the "fish hook" - hypothetical

  What if... Lt. General Longstreet supported Pickett's Charge with an attack at the southern end of the "fish hook" on Cemetery Ridge ?  Let's find out using an adapted version of  Bob Cordery's "Portable Wargame" system without the squares.   Please click on the photos to enlarge.

Units involved are: Maj. Gen. David Bell Birney, who just assumed command of the 3rd Corps, and his 1st division supported by several artillery batteries. 
                               4 brigades (Lang, Wilcox, Wright and Mahone) from Anderson's 1st division, 3rd Corps (A.P. Hill) assisting Maj. Gen. Lafayette McLaws and his 2nd division of Longstreet's 1st Corps.

Stirring music and the sound of cannon

           More stirring music and more cannon fire

           Stirring music, musket & rifle fire and the constant roar of the cannon 

Poor dice rolls in close combat dooms the Confederate assault on Cemetery Ridge.

The PA 114th holds.

Maj. Gen. McLaws was severely wounded by cannon fire in early action. The Union barely held on for the slimmest of victories. 

A fun time at the Wednesday Afternoon Retired Gamers (WARG) get together.

 Royalist initiative, Trained Horse advance across field 

 Royalist initiative, Artillery takes hit, while Raw Shot holds off Royalist advance

 Royalist initiative, though Parliaments Raw Shot offers strong resistance on the ridge

 Royalist initiative, as they overwhelm the ridge on turn 5

 Royalist initiative, Royalist Shot advances while Horse repositions itself to advance on the village.

Parliament initiative, and their Trained Shot bloodies the Royalist Horse Command before falling back through the village

A Royalist victory. With persistent Royalist initiative keeping pressure on raw troops in a precarious position, the Parliamentary force did well to delay the Royalist advance for as long as it did. And, there was no random event to shake things up.
